 Board renews accreditation

  • Fayette Library renews accreditation: Achieving accreditation requires a significant, ongoing local commitment to high quality library services. Of Iowa's 543 public libraries, 338 - including the Fayette Community Library- are accredited. The Fayette Community has been recognized for its efforts in all areas of library administration including governance and funding; staffing; library collection; services; public relations; and access and facilities. The accreditation is for three years and valid through June 30, 2012. This is the sixth time the library has received accreditation beginning in 1994. Linda K. Adams, is the Director and board members are: Jan O'Brien, Jean Merkle, Sue Dohrmann, Roy Karlson, Ron Ahrens, Peggy Bentley, and Connie Collins.
  • Homework Help! Available at the library Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:00 for elementary students in grades K-5th.  This year's tutor is Carol Steva, UIU work study student majoring in Elementary Education.
  • Preserving Fayette’s History: Digitizing Fayette Newspapers: We are happy to announce that,  thanks to  a grant from the Fayette County Community Foundation and matching support from the Friends of the Library, our patrons now have access to 54 reels of film of Fayette Newspapers, spanning years from 1882 to 2004. The papers have been digitized and are available on the web, or on CDs which can be searched in the library. On the web they can be found at http://fayette.newspaperarchive.com/Default.aspx
Because the materials are copyrighted, you will first need to contact the library for the login and password that will permit you to access the site. these should be invaluable for people doing genealogical or historical research.

  • Download audio books- with a valid library card, members of participating libraries can log onto the digital library website 24/7, install the free software, check out and download popular and classic audio books to their PC, transfer them to a portable MP3 player or even burn some titles to CD and listen in the car. Click on the NEIBORS icon to get started. Great news! There are now books available for Mac and iPod users.
