Space Rocks
John Heasley, an Astronomy Educator, presents his Space Rocks program. Participants act as scientists to sort through and classify the many “rocks” (planets, asteroids, comets, meteoroids) circling our Sun before taking a look at the “rocks” that fall to Earth. Create craters and examine actual meteorites!
Outer Space Odyssey
Outer Space Odyssey is presented by the Science Center of Iowa and kicks off the beginning of the Summer Reading Program. Join us as we follow the amazing journey of the Voyager Spacecraft.
Crafts & Craters
Come play with the group as we see how craters are made on the moon and just how many things are running into each other out there. Then we'll be cosmic bumper cars and make some craters of our own.
Star Party!
Come look through the UIU telescope! The viewing will be led by Upper Iowa's astronomy professor who loves to talk about telescopes, celestial bodies, and astral photography. Ask as many questions as you like as he points out cool stuff in the night sky with his laser. This event is scheduled for July 5th but really, it will depend on the weather. If Friday is cloudy or rainy we will have our party on Saturday. The location will either be Upper Iowa University Campus, or Volga Lake. As the event gets closer, watch for updates.
Star Wheels
Here's a chance to see how to use a star wheel! Let's track our night sky, see constellations, hear about the names of the constellations and stories about how they got those names. We'll make our own constellation models in 2D and 3D... and then we might just have to eat them :)
Spoon Man
Did you know that your silverware makes a great musical instrument? Let the Spoon Man show you! The Spoon Man is a published author who offers a hilarious interactive comedy program for all ages. Trust us, he gives a STIRRING performance and audiences EAT IT UP. He offers a totally clean performance- no dirty spoons allowed. The Spoon man will leave a lasting impression after playing on you (literally). This is the one you do not want to miss!!!
